Well the weather is almost here, if you are not on the road yet maybe either of these might take your fancy. Firstly a one off Buel which needs finnishing, but will probably be worth a bit when its there.
Not by my tinkering though. I bit the bullet and took it to a friendly mechanic recommended by a mate. He fixed my wiring mistakes and fitted my new electronic ignition, then noticed a number of problems I hadn't been aware of, none of which I had the confidence to tackle myself. The back brake was out of alignment, sort of bent over on the disc and one side was seized. Also the clutch cable was pulling at the clutch cover which was why I had so much trouble getting the bike into neutral. Both of these problems he fixed by making up brackets. Taking the bike for a spin just before I came to collect it he noticed the bike wasn't charging. I told him about the burnt out wire on the rectifier and by the time I arrived he had unrapped all the gaffer tape I had put around it and built an isolating housing out of perspex neatly held together with cable ties. With brake pads and a full tank that came to three hundred quid.
I'm not unhappy. For London that could have been a lot worse. I am reassured now someone with a bit more knowledge than me has had a good look round the bike and hopefully now I am ready for summer.
I wanted to build something like this years ago. I really like single cylinder Jap chops. This one is for sale north of Aberdeen. I have bitten the bullet with my electrical problems and sent my bike off to North London. Should be ready for the sunshine when it finally comes. Will hopefully be able to ride further than Tesco.
